At first glance, this choice may seem surprising, especially when it comes to ceiling height. In reality, it allows for a much better balance between comfort, ease of movement, and quality of life on board.
A van layout that adapts to the rhythm of the day
Most camper vans are designed around fixed layouts, with a permanent bed that takes up a large portion of the interior space. This constrains the rest of the layout and limits the sense of space during the day.
The fold-down bed offers a different approach.
The space remains fully open and functional during the day, then transforms into a real bedroom in just a few seconds, without any complicated steps. The bed lowers electrically, without moving any cushions or rearranging the furniture.

Rethinking the Concept of Interior Height
The issue of ceiling height often comes up in this type of design.
Yes, the height is slightly reduced under the bed when it is raised. But that makes sense from a practical standpoint.
This space is intended for resting, reading, eating, or relaxing. It is not a place where people stand for long periods of time.
On the other hand, you still have more than two meters of headroom in the back of the van, where you really need that vertical space: for cooking, moving around, getting changed, and taking a shower.
This makes the layout more cohesive, as it reflects how the van is actually used.
A true living room space, open to the outdoors
One of the major advantages of this layout is the quality of the living space.
Under the fold-down bed, we’ve incorporated atwo-meter-long sofa facing the side door. This layout immediately transforms the perception of space.
You no longer sit facing a wall, but instead face outward, with a direct connection to the surroundings. The van feels airy, light streams in, and the space naturally seems larger.
In addition, there is a separate dining area with a modular table that can be moved between the different zones.
The layout accommodatesup to six people seated comfortablyin a cohesive living area, without compromising on ergonomics. This level of comfort is rarely achieved in a camper van.
A bed that's always ready, hassle-free
One of the major advantages of a fold-down bed is how easy it is to use.
No processing is required at the end of the day.
The bed lowers electrically without altering the existing layout.
The bedding stays in place, ready for use, without any additional steps.
Measuring160 cm wide by 2 meters long, it offers true sleeping comfort without any lateral constraints. Unlike transverse beds, it does not force you into a fixed position and allows you to sleep naturally, without coming into contact with the sides.
A level of comfort designed to last
Because this is a dedicated bed rather than a convertible system, it offers significantly greater comfort over time.
TheFroli Star system, built into the mattress, improves support and air circulation, which is especially appreciated during extended stays.
Every detail around the sleeping area is designed with practical use in mind: reading lights, space to set down a glass or personal items, and storage above the sleeping area for pillows and blankets.
Together, these elements create a cohesive, functional, and pleasant sleeping area.
To take it a step further, you can install a projector in the ceiling above the bed, allowing you to watch movies or TV shows from the comfort of your bed on a 1.5-meter-wide screen. It’s a subtle feature, but one that completely transforms the atmosphere on board.
A natural flow of movement inside the van
Over time, the benefits of this design also become apparent in the way the vehicle’s entry points are used.
For much of the year, people naturally enter through the back, via the shower area. This creates an ideal transition zone after outdoor activities, while keeping the living space clean.
On sunny days, the side door becomes the main entrance, opening the van to the outdoors. The living area, positioned along this axis, extends the living space toward the landscape and enhances the feeling of openness.
A better balance of trade-offs
Any van conversion involves making choices.
Here, the slight reduction in height in the seating area unlocks much greater benefits: a true living room, a comfortable sleeping area that doesn’t require daily adjustments, and a more fluid use of space.
